This was the hottest day of the summer, so the cake had to be kept in the fridge for fear that it would melt. I didn’t get a chance to photograph it before the ceremony, so here is one sweaty cake!

Top two tiers are fake, bottom is half lemon with raspberry filling, the other half is chocolate with salted caramel.

Three sizes of cupcakes for this wedding celebration- giant, regular and mini! These are apple flavoured (with real chunks of apple) and cream cheese icing topped with Skor bits. The giant cupcake ‘liner’ was made by casting candy melts into the baking tin to create a candy shell. I got the fantastic tutorial for it here.

I worked on creating the props and set design for this show which ran at the Westside Concert Theatre in Hamilton in January 2011. The production was put on by Theatre Ancaster’s Stage 2 Saturdays group which consists of 35 kids ages 10-13 and is directed by Krista Cranston.

Cake Wall

This cake wall is made from 30 vanilla cake bricks. The bricks were baked in custom made aluminum pans (cut, bent and pop riveted at kwartzlab) It’s assembled with buttercream mortar icing.

The whole cake took 7 hours to assemble on-site which you can watch in this time lapse of only 2 minutes!

This cake installation was made for my art exhibition at kwartzlab in January of 2011. It was to celebrate the one year anniversary of the “art wall” where local artists are invited to show their works for one month at a time in the lab.

Working on The Wizard of Oz was a lot of fun and had lots of opportunity for creating new whimsical props. From corn fields, to gigantic spools of thread, ruby slippers, green feathered masks, and magical crystal balls, there was never a dull moment in the workshop. I had some of the actors in the show pose with the props I made for their characters.

99 A Musical Review

I designed this set for Brantford Collegiate Institute’s spring musical review entitled “99″. It celebrated 99 years of the school’s history with a wide range of scenes taken from many different musicals.
The backdrop consists of 4 separate panels, each measuring 4′ wide x 10′ tall. Each panel has 4 sets of curtains (beige, silver, brick wall, and London cityscape), each on their own pole. To change the scene, you would simply draw the curtain aside, where it would hide behind the 2′ of black curtain which separates each panel. The backdrops were also lit with different colours to change the look and feel of each scene. Additional props and set pieces were also used in the show.
